Ms Venessa Jones gives an interview regarding her participation in the Empowering Choices Jail Program at the Tuscaloosa County Jail. She was an active participant. She currently participates in the Empowering Choices Alternative 2 Incarceration community program and serves as a volunteer with the organization. The ECA2I program is a 14 week enrichment program that assist ex-offender women in making a smooth transition back into the community.
Over a thousand courts in several states allow private companies to oversee probation, often with little government oversight or regulation. This report from Human Rights Watch, titled: Profiting from Probation: America’s “Offender-Funded” Probation Industry, describes these privatized probation systems, which are funded primarily through fines paid by offenders, and documents cases in which probationers were jailed when they did not pay such fines. I want to share with you how God is always working on our behalf and for our good. Jeremiah 29:11″-For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Earlier this year my hubby and I went to wedding in Chicago. Normally when we fly we get a non stop flight so we don’t take a chance of missing a flight. This time my hubby mistakenly book a connecting flight. We had to change planes in St Louis. We only had time for a potty break and then get new flight. We got on our flight and took a seat in the front row. The plane was full. So while we were waiting for the other passengers to board an older gentleman went past us to go to the restroom in the front.
When he returned back I looked up at him. He looked just like my father who passed in 1975. A little history. My father was married previously before he married my mom. He had the first set of kids which were almost 20+ years older than we were. You see my mom and dad were 20 years apart in age. What can I say Mr. Lester Logan had it going on. Any way. So we had never been really close to our older sisters and brothers. (I never call them step because I don’t like that terminology). We had lost touch over the years. We spoke occasionally on the phone but had not seen each other in some time.
When this gentleman walked past I asked what his name was. He looked so much like my dad-Lester Logan. The man answered that his name was Logan. I said immediately I am your sister. We have the same dad. He looked confused and surprised. He was all the way in the back of the plane and we were in the front. We waited for Him by the baggage claim. we began to talk and YES it was my brother. Can you believe that. so many things had to line up for us to be together in that baggage claim. You can call it luck or coincidence if you like. But I call it the hand of God moving in my life to help complete me.
We had recently moved to Tuscaloosa Alabama following the instructions of the Lord. I found out that he was moving back from years of living in California. We now live less than 2 hours away. 2 Hours.
My sister(she lives outside of Atlanta) and I traveled to MS this past weekend for a family picnic that my big brother and relatives were having. We got to meet family and reconnect to people we met when we were kids. We also had a chance to meet new cuzins and relatives and their families. All I can say is WOW. I am so thankful for this chance to reconnect. 2 hours away. They just might get tired of me. I plan on going again in September. I just returned from a family reunion with my moms kids in July and now one in August. God is so good . ♥ He knows how to do and what to do. Follow his lead thru storm and dark into the light.
I had an opportunity to take Sophia(my new kidney) to meet her Texas family. I was able to stay and visit with friends and family for a whole week. Every one at Chosen Generation Fellowship was excited to meet and greet her. They were so thankful for the blessing from God and my health. I had a fantastic time visiting with Mother Nell Hines and Jessica Moore. We laughed until my sides were hurting. It was so good to just relax with family and remember about old times, good and not so good. . I needed that. Sometimes we can get so caught up in life’s busy work that we don’t take the time to relax and enjoy the day that God has given. laughter is good for the soul. Try it.
The photo is when I was feeling and looking fabulously 52. No shoes, just feeling free and grateful to God. If you are happy and you know twirl around. I am having a great time being 52.
I thought I was going to relax and not to work. I found out that God had other plans. I was reacquainted with a student of mine from our Empowering Choicesclass in Texas. She looked so good I almost did not recognize her. She is in Culinary school and making a good life for her and her children. God is the God of as many chances that you need. Seeing her gave me motivation to know that what God has started in Woman2Woman Empowerment,He will finish and perfect it until the day of His return. I was able to minister to others and to be blessed as well. Must remember that you are never “Off the Clock” when you work for God. He uses every thing and situation in our lives for His glory.
I missed my hubby. I was so glad to get home to him. I miss my Texas family also. Always good to visit but even better to come home to hubby.
To all God’s people who are stepping out the boat in 2013,keep looking at Jesus. Don’t let the waves distract you nor the noisy winds. If Jesus is telling you to come, then go. Be encouraged and energized. The best is yet to come.

I am so excited about the Empowering Choices Ex-offender Aftercare Program beginning in Tuscaloosa. God has impressed this ministry on my heart. We have operated the program in one form or another in Maryland and in Texas. Our goal is to assist women who want to have a better and different life experience. I am so honored that God would decide to use me in this way.
I know all about second chances. I have needed and required so many chances to get it “right”. I believe everyone should be given as many chances as they are willing to work for. Who are we to judge how long it should take a person to see the light. How long did it take you? Maybe you still are not there. I believe that the women that God will end our way will be willing to put in the work to change their lives. Believe me ,no one wants to live a defeated life. I saw a commercial on TV that says that talked about a maybe life. If you are not living with all that God desires for you, then you may be living a maybe life.
Change is not possible without the help of the Lord. We think we do it ourselves in our naïve self, but it is through the workings of the Lord Jesus.
The program is scheduled to open May 7th in Tuscaloosa, Al. God has blessed us to collaborate with the Parks and Rec Dept. He has blessed us with the grace to wait for His provision and his promise. Thank you Lord.
We solicit your prayers for and with us. Pray for the women whose lives will be changed. Pray that they are tenacious about being whom and what God created them to be.
I am not sure when I start using that opening but I love it. Any Who
I have titled this post Rejuvenated,Reenergize,Recommitted.
That is exactly how I feel.I am the founder and director of an organization called Woman2Woman Empowerment . We work with women returning to the community from incarceration. I never thought I would love this type of work, but I do. I love to see the light go on in a woman’s eyes when she realizes she can have better than she does now. I love helping them to move forward in a new direction. I love the look of accomplishment when they succeed in areas that they had previously failed. It is so rewarding. One of my dreams for this organization has been to open a empowerment house . This would be a place for them to stay when they return. The House would be a wrap around type service for them. I can see it being done here in Tuscaloosa, Al. So excited. God has been moving behind the scenes. Putting me in touch with some powerful people in reentry circles. I am so grateful and amazed.
Om May 7th 2013, we will launch the first segment of our Empowering Choices program. We will begin the aftercare support group and the mentoring program. We are actively seeking mentors who live in Tuscaloosa for the one to one portion. But we are also seeking mailbox mentors. We need people,( women for now) who would be willing to encourage an inmate that is currently incarcerated. You do not have to live in AL. You can live anywhere and participate. No personal info(address or such) are exchanged. If you think you might be interested in such an endeavor contact the office email@example.com . We are also seeking volunteers for the office and coordinators. Before you write us ,pray about it. It does require at least a 6 month committment.
You might read this and think that criminals deserve what they get. That is not my argument. what you might want to remember is that these women nd men will get out of jail one day. They will be moving into your neighbor hoods and cities. You should want to help get them on a path to being productive members of society. If they are not rehabilitated and redirected , they will revert back to criminal activity. Their criminal activity might just involve you. It is in the society best interest to help them all we can. And truth be told you have a family member , a friend or some acquaintance that has a direct connection to an ex-offender. For the protection of your stuff support the organizations and agencies that are working with reentry and rehabilitation.
God is doing great things in the earth today. Find out what He is doing and join him.
This blog is for dialogue on the issue of women in ministry and the freedom for women to teach the bible in a public setting. It is also for questions and answers on our DVD entitled “Women in Ministry: Silenced or Set Free?” This 4 DVD set answers the hard passages of scripture that seem to restrict women’s ministry.
