A Beautiful Wedding in Chicago

A Beautiful Wedding in Chicago

Its been a while since I have posted . I have been traveling , visiting family and friends. Just recently  we  traveled to Chicago to attend my husbands nephews wedding. He is an Ethiopian Hebrew. I have never attended a Jewish wedding so needless to say I was excited to attend. I looked some video up on YouTube. Found them very interesting .  I must admit I was interested to see what a Jewish wedding with a African-American flair would be.

Well the wedding was beautiful. I mean really meaningful and beautiful. There we some similarities with a “regular wedding”. They had brides maids and grooms man, flower girls and ring bearers. The rabbi explained explains some things before the wedding begins. The bride and groom stand under a canopy called a chuppah. They are the only ones under the chuppah. The rabbi says to them both ” There is no one under here but you two then that is the only ones that need to be involved in your marriage. You are his best friend and he is yours, Now that is some good advice.

Now here is the beautiful part. The bride circles the groom and says 7 times, I will obey. Now I know you 21st century women are saying -OBEY. Yes obey . Maybe that is why you are still single. But that subject is for another blog post.  Any way now the groom circles the bride 7 times and says the following. I will work for you. I will support you. I will honor you. I will love you. I will care for you. I will

As I sat in the audience I was thinking if the rabbi keeps this up all these women are going to be looking for a Jewish hubby. All the women in the audience were in agreeance  by the sounds I heard . The rabbi says to the bride that there will be no do you have your half od the rent. The rent and bills are the groom’s responsibility.

They exchange rings. The Rabbi ask each of them if the rings belong to them. Because who ever owns the ring will be who the bride belongs to. The drink a glass of wine to show that their lips are cleansed . The rabbi says as you have pressed your lips on the glass your lips now should not press another’s but each others.  How beautiful. everything was explained and had a meaning. They both then sighed a marital contract in front of the congregation. He did tell them that their friend were not qualified to give them counsel on marriage. The bride and groom should seek some one who has been married for a good amount of time like 40-50 years.

There was one hiccup. The bride fainted because of the heat and the fact she had not eaten all day. The rabbi says  jokingly bring a chair she can’t get out of it now by fainting. I learned some new things at a wedding. I erased some misunderstandings and had a new appreciation for the words that were said at the ceremony.

As the bride was in the chair the groom kissed his bride. He stepped on the glass and the congregation yelled Mozel Tov. Blessings and congratulation to Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Bullock.  It was truly beautiful. A young couple sealing and celebrating their love by making a commitment before God and congregation.  We had a great time spending time with family and friends.

The Minister…in Hell!

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17 NIV

Minister: I can’t believe I am here! I must be passing through on my way to heaven, just as Jesus did, because I did everything right. I know I am HEAVEN BOUND!!! (Rocking my Jesus Freak t-shirt!!) I had a check off list each day; I fed the hungry, found the homeless a place to stay and rebuked people into repentance, so I’m sure I’m just visiting.

Satan: Well, well, well I am so glad to see you!

Minister:  Do you happen to know when I’m leaving?

Satan: (laughing) Leaving? You are in eternity! This is your final stop. You were so easy to convince to get here. I didn’t even have to try hard with “blatant”…

His Grace is Sufficient

Just a little update regarding my kidney transplant . Sophia(my kidneys name) is getting better adjusted to me and I to her. I just want to offer a word of encouragement to others that might be in the midst of trials and test. Trust God.! Believe God! Obey God! Trust God!!

Remember when God was speaking to the devil regarding Job.

3 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.”

4 So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. 5 But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”

God was confident that the devil could not shake or break Job’s faith and trust in God. God had confidence in Job and Job had confidence in God. I believe that Job’s mindset was ,If God believe in me then I will pass this test.

That is the attitude I had to adopt. If God believe that I could go thru all these 12 years of Kidney issues/issues with my blood not being purified, then I can and will do. When I was in school I wanted to get the best grade possible. I wanted to pass this test with flying color. Now as I look at all that I have learned and accomplished through the help and grace of God I am floored. The bible says:

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” 2Cor 12:9 NIV

So I boast in my weakness so that you might see and understand the true strength of My God. Grateful does not even begin to explain how I feel.

Dont give up on God because He wont give up on You. We  hear people say that God is able. But more important than God being able He is willing . Many times we know people who could  help us but they just do not want to. God is not like that. He is willing and able to meet you at the point of your needs. Reach out to Him. Be vulnerable before him. Be transparent.

Transitioning to my NEW Normal

Living in a place called Grateful

Living in a place called Grateful

Got some really great fantastic and wonderfully joyous news to share . I received a kidney transplant on Feb 21st. Many of you might not know that I had End Stage Renal Disease(ESRD). What it means in English is that my kidneys stopped working to filter and clean my blood. The also did not make urine any more. I have been on dialysis for 12 yrs. Yes 12 years. Ten of those years i no longer made pee. No wee-wee.

But thanks be to God my 12 years with an issue of blood has ended. I have transitioned to my new normal. So i am writing this from UAB transplant floor. I have had this new kidney for 6 days. I had to remember what it is like to urinate.:0  After 10 years it is a strange sensation. But I like it.   So I will write some reg post and then some Transition to new normal post.

I never lost my faith and trust in God. I would ask him from time to time do you see me. He would answer yes. I continued to do the work that God had commissioned me to do as His ambassador. Now I will forge ahead with even more zeal and wisdom. So excited for my transition and my blessing.

Must mention the family that lost the loved one that had the kidney. I bless them for their forethought. To think ahead in a time of such great loss. To want to improve the life of a total stranger while in your own grief. That is love ,pure love of Christ. I pray for them and thank them so so much.

By the way I named my new kidney Sophia. I like to name stuff and I love that name. Me and Sophia are planning a trip out of the country by next year. Lots of things to do and see and share. Be blessed and remember that God knows the end from the beginning. When He created you He knew your ups and downs. He made provision for you. Allow Him to work his will and way out in your life as you transition to your new normal. And like I always say:

You Don’t Have to Fall!??

I attend the College Hill BC School of Wisdom on Thursday. It is a very interesting class where we discuss the bible and how to apply it to our lives. Thursday’s discussion was the Fruit of the Spirit. We were discussing that to produce fruit and more fruit you have to stay connected to the vine-Jesus Christ. We also were talking about erroneous songs that are not supported by the Bible.

Now don’t get ready to stone me . “We fall down and we get up” Donnie McClurkin  has been an easy out for a lot of people. Also -“If you find anything in me ,take it away Lord”. Wrong again.

Before you start talking about the grace of God and that He made provision for my mistakes, read this scripture 2Peter 1:10.

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election
sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,(NIV)

Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election
sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.(ESV)

Why the rather, brothers, give diligence to make your calling and election sure:
for if you do these things, you shall never fall(AKJV)

Look at that. The Bible says that if you practice these things you will not fall. What things is He instructing us to practice. Give heed to,practice these things shown in vs 4 and below

4 has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.5Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.9For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.10Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. NASB © 1995 by The Lockman Foundation

Practice these things. make them your second,(scratch that), your first nature. When you continually give heed to these qualities and attributes you do not have to fall. You do not have to sin. You will not have to fall and get back up. It is due to a lack of practice that our skills of resisting the devil and not yielding to the flesh become dull and of no use. If we follow the directions that God has laid forth in the Bible we will miss the shipwrecks of life. You won’t have the testimony that I fell but I made it back. Yur tetimony willbe I was kept by the Word of God and my obedience to it. You can live a triumphant Christian life in this world. Wow. How about we try that in 2013?

I know that I will get emails and comments but that’s OK. The Word is the Word. Application of the Word of God to our situations and circumstances is much-needed and very necessary.

I’ve seen your kindness and your strength. I’ve seen the best and the worst of you. And I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You’re a hell of a woman.”
